Community outreach is part of the KACP Strategic Plan 2025 to 2030. The plan asks members to engage with communities and to help extend laboratory services to underserved parts of Kenya.
Why outreach matters
Kenya has about one pathologist for every 250,000 people, and they are concentrated in a few cities. Many counties have limited access to reliable diagnosis. Public understanding of what pathology does is low, and the field is still too often associated only with the dead. Outreach is meant to address both.
What KACP is working towards
Reaching underserved areas
Mobilising pathologists and other health workers to serve remote and underserved areas of the country.
Partnerships for outreach
Agreements with county governments, hospitals, professional boards, private companies, non governmental organisations and government agencies to run outreach together.
Public awareness
Public engagement, media work and campaigns that explain the role of pathology in healthcare, led by the Social and Public Relations Committee.
Keeping expertise where it is needed
Engaging policy makers on practical ways to attract and retain health professionals in underserved areas.
Take part
Members who would like to volunteer for outreach, and organisations that would like to partner with KACP on it, can write to the Secretariat at info@kacp.co.ke.
